It's May
Hey friends, welcome to my once a month newsletter. Thanks for jumping in!
I’m focusing on things in my control. So, I’m looking forward to celebrating our oldest turning 17, welcoming some family for a visit here, and have a visit coming up of my own to my 30th college reunion in Connecticut.
What shows and books have I been enjoying? Well, since you asked, I’ve been digging Dark Winds, The Residence and Your Friends and Neighbors. And I’ve enjoyed reading Orbital, The Coin (halfway through), and Creation Lake — so much so I went out and got Hard Crowd Essays.
Couple things for your radar, especially if you’re here in Portland. If you’re looking to be in community, have fun and support and sustain some awesome organizations:
Join me June 7th on the Portland Spirit to celebrate The Portland Institute for Contemporary. I’ll be on the mic to raise funds and it will be an awesome party.
June 1st I’ll be over at Harper’s Playground celebrating their 15th birthday at Arbor Lodge. Come out and play!
May 29th I’m hosting a fundraiser for the Sellwood Community House over at Union Pine.
And May 17th I’ll be on the mic to celebrate and support Adaptive Sports NW, along with Blazer sideline reporter Brooke Olzendam.

I’ll be hosting the Moth StorySlam this coming Monday, May 5th at the Old Church.
If you’re interested in putting your name in the hat to tell a 5 minute story the theme is “Only in Portland.” Kind of an intriguing theme. I’m curious what folks will share. Tickets here.
For those of you who have been challenged or are challenging yourself to get on stage and tell a story by the end the year (I see you!) I’ll also be on the mic August 4th and again December 1st, both also at the Old Church

I’m super excited to share that I’m co-hosting the brand new, soon to be released Backfence Unhinged podcast along with Backfence Artistic Director and my very good friend Frayn Masters.
Why it is called Unhinged? Well, it’s an interview-style storytelling show where we bring a guest to a tell a story, and then we chat about it — asking questions and even sharing some of our anecdotes and micro-stories. It even includes a minute each show where Powell’s Books store manager Bry Hoeg shares book recommendations based on our the story our guest tells.
Where can you listen?
AC Dickson: Life Coach Show
I got the performance of my October run of performances edited and online. If you’re interested in seeing the show watch it here. Comments off because the internet.
As a few of you might remember, I did a run of three shows. And a central part of each performance was inviting a pre-selected audience member on stage to be coached. For this public cut I did a little montage where you just see me introduce and clap each each volunteer. Got to come see the show in person to see the live coaching. And I got get to some new dates going so you can do that.
Okay, that’s it for now. Thanks for reading and hang in there.
Andrew
