That's a wrap

Life coach updates + Storytelling + Big Feelings Baby + Girl Scout Cookies

I’m happy to share that principal photography on my new show AC Dickson: Life Coach is done.

We filmed most of the show in a classroom at Washington High School - right across from Revolution Hall. And I was lucky to work with an incredible team of collaborators. The cast and crew were both fantastic.

It was exhausting, amazing, and I both can’t imagine doing it again and am already thinking about new ideas and projects to film. THANK YOU to everyone who has helped and is rooting for it!

Editing starts this week and we’re hoping to share and shop it around soon. I’m grateful to everyone who helped and for all of your for following along on the journey.

The first time I met Ash Allen I pulled a sheet of paper with her name on it out of a plastic pumpkin and read it out loud. She came on stage and told a fantastic story that won The Moth that night. Same goes for the second time.

We become friends and I’ve been lucky enough to be along for part of her journey to develop her first solo show - Big Baby Feelings

Ash is doing a fundraiser for the show February 20th. It’ll feature music, storytelling, specials guest and yours truly coming on stage to auction off a few items with all funds raised going to support the show.

Years ago I had a bit where I would auction off “things I found lying around my house.” My plan is to mix a few of those with one or two genuinely desirable things slash experiences.

Should be a pretty wonderful evening.

More Storytelling!?!

The Moth was Monday night. And wow was it a good one. Maybe you were there?

If you missed it, and you’re here in Portland looking to join or rejoin or continue to be in the thick of the storytelling community there are lots of great shows coming up.

Travis Ables is hosting his monthly Tiniest Party show February 17th, And 7 Deadly Sins has their The Absolute Worst Show the next night, February 18th.

And you can listen to the BACKFENCE Unhinged podcast anytime. If you can believe it we’re already up to 22 episodes. What are the last few all about? Why 30 minutes of myself, my co-host Frayn Masters and…

Actor and NY Times Modern Love author Jason Rouse telling the tale of pulling a body out of the Columbia River with his raw, brute strength.

Writer and performer and once again NY Times Modern Love author Nicole Hardy sharing a tale of bad judgement in three parts.

Designer Aaron Draplin recounting a dramatic rescue of a prized possession. Spoiler: It’s a skateboard!

And poet comedian Derrick Brown sharing his story of how you can’t judge a book by its cover. Especially when the book is a person and that person is one half of Brooks and Dunn.

Oh, and I’ll be back on stage at The Moth on April and June. The shows have been selling out fairly quickly, so the best way to get tickets is sign up for the newsletter here

Chi-ca-go

My oldest kiddo Pearl is heading to Chicago this June as part of the Cleveland High School Choir and Theater program — two truly exceptional programs she has been involved with for the better part of 4 years.

To help ensure every student can go there’s a silent auction with all kinds of local goods and services

And you know what, you don’t have to have any connection to Cleveland High School Choir or Theater program to bid!

So take a peek. Throw a bid or two in. Help make a dream come true and maybe walk away with a slightly under or over market value Por Que No gift card, a few hours of high quality babysitting, or even some….

Girl Scout Cookies

Pearl is also enjoying her last year of being a Girl Scout. And yes, cookie season is upon us. She’ll be set up in groceries stores throughout SE Portland come March, but you can also order direct. You can order yours here! Or bid on the “rainbow” at the auction link above.

Oh, and if you do and you’re here in Portland make sure and check “girl delivery” so you don’t have to pay for shipping!

Okay, that’s it for now. Except for this!

Thanks for reading and hang in there.
